Opening Day!

Marina and I love our Tigs. Even though she grew up in the GR and I grew up in Detroit, no amount of miles could take away from our loyalty and the pride we have for our team. For me, my family was a baseball and hockey family. I know that may make me a little white trashy, but man do I love my Red Wings and Tigers. My grandpa used to take our whole family to a game every single year and I remember  just several days after he passed away, we went to our annual game and saw our last name on the welcome screen, the name my grandpa carried to us, and I couldn't help but think how he probably could see it too. We still try to make it to at least one game a year, but I always thank my grandpa for instilling that love in me.

I remember when they closed Tigers Stadium and opened Comerica Park. I am pretty sure I went on at least 4 tours of the stadium with various members of my family. But the more I went, the more I felt like I must own the stadium a little too. I knew all about this piece of Detroit, a piece of my childhood, that would someday be just a memory.

I have to say though, the closest I ever got to my team, was meeting the 2006 team at a luncheon I attended with my high school journalism teacher. I remember how excited she was to tell me that I was going, and I also remember her pulling a few string to get Pudge to sit next to me! You could tell it was much more exciting for me than it was for any of the men on the team, but what the hey, how many people get to meet their favorite team! They were all very nice and super funny, and though it was an amazing afternoon for me, journalism wasn't my thing in the end. So if the team ever needs an organizational behavioral psychologist . . . I'm your girl!

So here's to you Tigs on opening day (you're 1 and 0 at the top of the 8th right now, let's keep it that way)! GGGGGGGRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
